The distinction
Whoever owns the record owns the relationship.
When a case closes at a traditional firm, the client typically walks away with a folder of PDFs and an email thread they will never find again. The organised version of their own legal history stays with the firm.
CourtDocs inverts that. The vault belongs to the consumer from the first upload, before any attorney is involved. A firm is granted access to specific documents inside a specific matter, and that grant ends when the matter does.
This is not only a philosophical position. It determines the permission model, the tenant boundaries, the audit trail and the retention rules — which is why it is stated first and everything else is designed around it.
